ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sinclair Lewis (1885–1951), the first American Nobel Prize in Literature recipient, authored novels critical of interwar American capitalism. Notable works include "Main Street," "Babbitt," and "Elmer Gantry."  His literary career began with poetry and short sketches at Yale, leading to varied jobs and travels. Settling briefly in Carmel and San Francisco, he connected with notable writers. Lewis's impact lies in his vivid characterizations of modern working women and satirical take on American society.
